Volunteers needed for Mercy Education Project (MEP) Event – October 23rd
AWAF is looking for volunteers for our third STEM event this year! We are partnering with the Mercy Education Project (MEP) College and their Career Readiness (CCR) Program – 11th and 12th graders and possibly their Robotics Team Program (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Grade.)
Dates/time of the event: Wed, October 23, 2019 4:35 PM to 7 PM
Location: 1450 Howard St. Detroit, MI 48216
Approximate number of girls: 14 to 20
Volunteers needed: 4 to 5
Project: A few round table discussions STEM fields/ideas: What careers are in IT. What it is like to work in a manufacturing plant. What do you think the car of the future looks like? How would electric cars be charged, etc. The girls would rotate from table to table. Plus, possibly assembling a car or engaging in a quiz on the history of women in STEM.
Dessert: AWAF will provide dessert. The girls will have already eaten dinner.
Mission Statement: MEP's mission is to provide educational opportunities, life skills development and cultural enrichment for women and girls who have limited access to resources to enable them to improve the quality of their lives. It is a 501(c)3 founded by the Sisters of Mercy but they are separate from U of D. Located in SW Detroit near the Old Tiger Stadium they work with girls in southwest Detroit from the High Schools of Western International and Detroit Cristo Rey High School
