Looking for Summer Mentors
A wonderful member opportunity! Please consider becoming a mentor for our upcoming 2019 AWAF Summer Mentor program!
Applications are now being accepted for participants in a formal mentoring program to be launched by the AWAF Mentoring Committee in 2019.
Concept: A mentoring program designed to encourage and nurture the professional development of AWAF scholarship recipients.
Who: Mentee participants will consist of AWAF scholarship recipients current and past. AND Mentors: We also wish to develop a pool of at least 20 experienced AWAF mentors to ensure we can create successful matches in terms of experience, time and availability. It is preferred that the mentor candidates are active members within AWAF.
What/Where: The program content will consist of four one-on-one meetings with a mentor and mentee - by phone, Skype or in person as logistics permit. The mentoring pair will discuss questions, challenges and learnings related to career planning, work-life balance, self-confidence and personal influence.
When: Early Summer 2019, as early as June, at times agreed upon by mentoring pairs. (Feedback is that most college students are too busy during the Fall/Winter/Spring school sessions.)
How: All applicants are requested to submit biographical and career information that will help assist in the matching process. Mentor pairs will be advised by early May so that they can begin to connect and schedule their meetings. The 2nd week of May, mentors will receive training and guidance in how to be an effective mentor details will be sent to mentors selected.
The mentorship committee has designed AWAF’s 2019 Mentoring summer program with an eye on sustainability, structure and emphasis on professional development. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact Vicki Adams at [email protected].
