Katie Colligan

Katie is a freshmen at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Vermont studying automotive technology and ASE certifications. Katie's was first inspired to be in automotive by her father, a top ranked certified automotive technician in the country. While in high school, she attended a vocational automotive technology program and excelled to compete in various projects including the creation of an engine fueled by propane and received eight student ASE certifications. In Katie's words "Being a technician is not a job but a part of me that I cannot imagine not having. I have a dream one day of being one of the top 50 technicians in the country and as an ASE certified master technician alongside my father."

Katie was Youth of the Year through the YMCA in Franklin, MA and received a community service award for 2000 hours for volunteerism in many activities including the executive board, Leader's Club President and at the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Conference she was selected as a guidance counselor. Katie plans to pursue a bachelor's degree after completion of the automotive technology program at VTC. Her hometown is Franklin, Massachusetts. We are proud to select Katie Colligan as the first recipient of the AWA scholarship, dedicated in memory of Irma R Elder, a female pioneer of automotive dealerships.
