Awarded $2,500 on 8/19/2013
Alex is a senior at Kettering University in Flint, MI completing her mechanical engineering degree. For the past three years she has interned at Magna Seating Systems, and has applied her classroom learning to the workplace to gain valuable work experience. Her senior thesis will concentrate on leg room improvement for second row occupants and she sees it as great opportunity to be on the design side of the automotive industry. Alex plans to take the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) in the fall of 2013 as the first step toward becoming a professional engineer (PE). Her goal is to continue in graduate school and earn a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and take the final professional engineer exam after working four years in a closely related field.
Alex has an exemplary GPA at Kettering, and is current treasurer of Alpha DeltaNu-A. For the past three years, she has been involved in a Kettering program called “compass crew” which plans and facilitates an extensive orientation weekend each year for incoming students and she attends leadership camp as mentors with select incoming students. Alex was a teaching assistant for a required orientation class taught by a faculty member, a professor and a student. The orientation class helps students make the transition into college life. Alex writes, “I am honored to have been able to make such an impact in the orientation process and believe these experiences have greatly improved my leadership qualities.” Johnson Controls selected Alex from our top candidates to sponsor this educational scholarship for AWAF and she is our second-time scholarship recipient.
